Major League Fishing GEICO Selects First Event Offered on Extended Cast

TULSA, Okla. (October 7, 2014) – Major League Fishing announced today that the GEICO Select’s first event – the Bass Pro Shops Summit Select, presented by BACAS – will begin airing October 22 on Extended Cast, the league’s Internet-based pay-per-view offering.

Each Web-based episode provides three times the amount of coverage that appears on Major League Fishing’s television shows.

The Summit Select features 24 anglers that are not regular competitors in the Major League Fishing Cup series, which is the original MLF Series. Anglers participating in the Summit Select are: Scott Ashmore, Brent Chapman, Jason Christie, Keith Combs, Ott DeFoe, Kurt Dove, Paul Elias, Todd Faircloth, Randy Howell, Andy Montgomery, Cliff Pace, Brandon Palaniuk, Keith Poche, Marty Robinson, Mark Rose, Casey Scanlon, Morizo Shimizu, Kevin Short, Fletcher Shryock, Michael Simonton, Scott Suggs, Gerald Swindle, James Watson and Jacob Wheeler.

“It’s a world-class field, and I assure you that anyone tuning in to this event will some of the most exciting fishing that I’ve ever seen. We had outstanding competition that included some of the most dramatic finishes that I’ve witnessed in the four decades I’ve been involved in tournament fishing,” said Major League Fishing Commissioner Don Rucks.

The Extended Cast Summit Select events can be accessed through the league’s website: www.majorleaguefishing.com. Details on how to watch the Internet version of the Major League Summit Select will be posted on www.majorleaguefishing.com beginning October 8.

The event will also be available in an hour-long, television format beginning in January on Outdoor Channel, America’s Leader in Outdoor Television.

“The Summit Select is an important new piece of Major League Fishing. The same on-the-water rules apply in a Select event, and, obviously, the same terrific competition happens. It’s Major League Fishing with a few interesting twists,” Rucks said.

“The format is slightly different. There are six days of competition and each day there is a winner. The winner advances to a slot in a corresponding Major League Fishing Cup event. In other words, the six daily winners move on to compete the Major League Fishing Summit Cup. In the past, the Summit Cup involved 24 anglers. Now, the Summit Cup will include 30 anglers – our 24 ‘regular’ Cup anglers plus six Select anglers,” Rucks said.

Rucks highly recommends that Major League Fishing fans view the Internet version of the Summit Select.

“The episodes are three times as long, but there is not a dull moment,” he said. “You get the same great production, you just get more of it on the web-based show.”

The Summit Select was filmed on lakes in the Muskogee, Oklahoma region.

As in all Major League Fishing events, competing anglers are not allowed to practice or research venues. The anglers are chauffeured by boat officials to their fishing sites and are not told the actual location until they reach a staging area.

Select events utilize the innovative Major League Fishing format, in which anglers are allowed to weigh all the “scorable” bass they catch. The bass are immediately weighed after they are caught then are released back into the water. In Major League Fishing competition, anglers know where they rank in the standings at all times via SCORETRACKER© devices in their boats. Anglers are not allowed to practice before events and were notified of the Summit Select location two days before the start.
