SPRO more than Fishing
Kennesaw, GA—One SPRO customer has found a unique way to use some of the companyâs products. Recently, SPRO discovered that Washington State resident, Suzanne Moe, uses SPRO swivels and split rings to aide her in training birds in her falconry practice.
âSPRO is excited to learn more about our customers and the various ways they use our products in falconry,â said Syd Rives, Sales Manager, SPRO. âWe encourage our consumers to share other unique and creative ways they use SPRO products in their outdoor pursuits.
Moe discovered SPRO swivels and split rings could positively impact her falconry needs after reading tips from others on falconry websites. The heavy duty barrel swivels along with the split rings make an extremely strong and compact combination, which are not prone to tangling or twisting.
In 2010, Moe received her falconry permit and then in 2012 she trapped her first female immature red-tailed hawk. Earlier this year she acquired a male captive bred Harris Hawk. read more…

Major League Fishing GEICO Selects First Event Offered on Extended Cast
TULSA, Okla. (October 7, 2014) â Major League Fishing announced today that the GEICO Selectâs first event â the Bass Pro Shops Summit Select, presented by BACAS â will begin airing October 22 on Extended Cast, the leagueâs Internet-based pay-per-view offering.
Each Web-based episode provides three times the amount of coverage that appears on Major League Fishingâs television shows.
The Summit Select features 24 anglers that are not regular competitors in the Major League Fishing Cup series, which is the original MLF Series. Anglers participating in the Summit Select are: Scott Ashmore, Brent Chapman, Jason Christie, Keith Combs, Ott DeFoe, Kurt Dove, Paul Elias, Todd Faircloth, Randy Howell, Andy Montgomery, Cliff Pace, Brandon Palaniuk, Keith Poche, Marty Robinson, Mark Rose, Casey Scanlon, Morizo Shimizu, Kevin Short, Fletcher Shryock, Michael Simonton, Scott Suggs, Gerald Swindle, James Watson and Jacob Wheeler.
âItâs a world-class field, and I assure you that anyone tuning in to this event will some of the most exciting fishing that Iâve ever seen. We had outstanding competition that included some of the most dramatic finishes that Iâve witnessed in the four decades Iâve been involved in tournament fishing,â said Major League Fishing Commissioner Don Rucks.
The Extended Cast Summit Select events can be accessed through the leagueâs website: www.majorleaguefishing.com. Details on how to watch the Internet version of the Major League Summit Select will be posted on www.majorleaguefishing.com beginning October 8.
The event will also be available in an hour-long, television format beginning in January on Outdoor Channel, Americaâs Leader in Outdoor Television.
âThe Summit Select is an important new piece of Major League Fishing. The same on-the-water rules apply in a Select event, and, obviously, the same terrific competition happens. Itâs Major League Fishing with a few interesting twists,â Rucks said.
âThe format is slightly different. There are six days of competition and each day there is a winner. The winner advances to a slot in a corresponding Major League Fishing Cup event. In other words, the six daily winners move on to compete the Major League Fishing Summit Cup. In the past, the Summit Cup involved 24 anglers. Now, the Summit Cup will include 30 anglers â our 24 âregularâ Cup anglers plus six Select anglers,â Rucks said.
Rucks highly recommends that Major League Fishing fans view the Internet version of the Summit Select.
âThe episodes are three times as long, but there is not a dull moment,â he said. âYou get the same great production, you just get more of it on the web-based show.â
The Summit Select was filmed on lakes in the Muskogee, Oklahoma region.
As in all Major League Fishing events, competing anglers are not allowed to practice or research venues. The anglers are chauffeured by boat officials to their fishing sites and are not told the actual location until they reach a staging area.
Select events utilize the innovative Major League Fishing format, in which anglers are allowed to weigh all the âscorableâ bass they catch. The bass are immediately weighed after they are caught then are released back into the water. In Major League Fishing competition, anglers know where they rank in the standings at all times via SCORETRACKER© devices in their boats. Anglers are not allowed to practice before events and were notified of the Summit Select location two days before the start.

Scroggins and Swindle Share Three Tips for Fall Bass Fishing
Longtime Bassmaster Elite Series Tour roommates Terry Scroggins and Gerald Swindle agree on a lot of things. Including the same brand of tow vehicle, The SEC being college footballâs strongest conference, and that nothing makes for a better evening than a marinated rib eye grilled among friends.
They also agree on three basic rules regarding fall bass fishing.
Fast retrieve: âFish seem to want a lure thatâs moving quickly through the water in the fall,â says Swindle. âEven the jig I have tied on is going to be used mostly as a swim jig. Of course, if I come to an isolated shallow dock or laydown, itâs gonna be handy to skip or pitch. But again, mostly, I swim a jig horizontally in the fall.â
Small, fast moving lures: Scroggins agrees that speed is the answer to autumn success, but the lures need to be relatively small. âUse lures you can fish fast, but maintain a compact profile like a ¼ ounce spinnerbait, a Zell Pop on the surface, or an XRK50 XCalibur One Knocker lipless bait.â
âFor the most part, youâre trying to mimic the schools of shad that hatched this previous spring. Theyâre not that big. So keep your lures relatively small too,â adds Swindle. âYou canât hardly go wrong with a ¼ ounce double willow spinnerbait in natural shad colors,â he adds.
Swindle uses a 6.6:1 Quantum Smoke baitcasting reel built with a sizeable 150 spool in order to make long casts and maximize speed of retrieve when fishing spinnerbaits.
Shad in the Creeks: Youâve likely been told to follow the shad migration toward the backs of creeks in the fall more times than your momma told you not to chew with your mouth open. Mom was right, and Scroggins and Swindle both say the âfollow the shad to the backs of the creeksâ theory still holds true as autumnâs bassinâ gospel.
âBass are going to be eating shad toward the back of a creek somewhere on whatever reservoir youâre fishing, but it may not be the first creek you choose, so move around from one creek to another, and burn a little gas until you find the creek where theyâre actively feeding,â says âBig Showâ.
âI usually start looking about one-third or halfway back into the creek, but I ainât making the first cast until I see the shad on the surface or spot them on my Humminbird,â says Swindle. âYou ainât never seen Peter T hanging around an empty buffet, have yaâ? Well, I ainât fishing in the fall, if I donât see shad.â
