Tackle Tuesday

This weeks feature is a new bait that I’m really excited about, the Strike King 8.0.
This bait will be a big player when fishing shallow offshore structure. It’ll go 7-9 ft and it comes through the cover very well. The 8.0 is also a good choice for fish relating to a shad spawn or if you’re looking to catch the biggest fish in a school.
The only modification I may make is going to a heavier wire hook depending on the size of the fish.
Recommended Tackle-
Power Tackle KCCB 70 MH
Seaguar 15 lb Invizx
Shimano Curado 7.2:1
Good fishing!

Practice is Important

Tournament practice is as important to a competitive angler as the actual tournament itself. Being efficient with your time and covering as much productive water as possible is one of the main ingredients for continued success. This goes well past just tournament anglers and applies to any fisherman looking for more consistent quality days on the water. read more…
Lake Guntersville Result Revitalizes Cabela’s, GEICO Angler David Walker’s Season

|
GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (April 13) — Cabela’s/GEICO For Your Boat angler David Walker turned his Bassmaster Elite Series season completely around in one weekend by recording a top-five finish on Lake Guntersville. Culling his way to a 17-pound, 4-ounce bag on Sunday, Walker increased his overall tournament weight to 84 pounds, 8 ounces, which was good enough for fourth place. “On the last day we were able to keep up with BassTrakk just like everyone else,” Walker said. “About every hour or so I would ask, ‘What place do they have me?’ It kept going from third to second, back to third, to first, and it just kept changing. It felt like I spent the whole day fishing for that one big cast knowing if I caught a couple of big ones it would make a difference. “The entire field was so tight that it really was a one-day tournament. Everything that had happened before that really didn’t matter. It made it kind of interesting. I never felt like I was way behind or way ahead; I just felt comfortable. “I’m happy with the choices I made and I’m happy as I can be with the results. Sometimes you lose an event and you’re so upset because you should have done this or wished that something else would have happened. For me, I felt good about it. Now I just hope to fish some more of these events with that same confidence and demeanor about it. If that happens, I should have plenty of more chances to win.” Finding himself behind in the Angler of the Year standings early this season, Walker turned his performance around to move solidly into 49th in the standings after just two tournaments. “All in all it was a great event,” Walker said. “This tournament got me back up to a good spot in the points. After going into this weekend 109th in points but then fishing the way I did, I was able to move up a long way. I was able to really get the train back on the tracks for sure. “I’m now looking forward to the western swing and heading out to California. I’m pretty familiar with these places, so hopefully the success continues.”

Cabela’s/GEICO for Your Boat’s Mike McClelland Leaves Alabama Satisfied

|
GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (April 11) — By making an impressive late charge this weekend, Cabela’s/GEICO For Your Boat angler Mike McClelland recorded a top-50 Bassmaster Elite Series finish Saturday on Lake Guntersville. Culling his way to a five-fish 14-pound, 15-ounce bag Saturday, McClelland’s three-day total weight of 50 pounds, 12 ounces was good enough for a 39th-place overall finish. “It was definitely the toughest day we had seen at Lake Guntersville since we got here,” McClelland said. “Even considering practice, the conditions were as unfavorable as they could have been if you weren’t fishing select areas, and I think a lot of us faced that today. “The wind blew a lot harder than it was supposed to. It was probably blowing 10 to 18 mph today straight out of the north, and it really messed a lot of the areas that we were fishing. “I actually caught more fish today than I had caught all week throughout the course of the day, but I never got any big bites. And I think when you look at the leaderboard, there were still a fair amount of 20-pound bags but the catches weren’t quite as impressive as what they had been this week.” Despite finding himself much further down the leaderboard than he would have liked after the first day of competition, McClelland is satisfied with the hard-fought display he put in to work his way up to a top-40 finish. “Essentially I feel ecstatic in the way this event turned out after how it went the first day,” McClelland said. “Would I have loved to have gone out and caught another 23-pound bag today and continue to fish tomorrow? Yeah, of course I would have. “When you have a setback like I had the first day, you don’t perform and you don’t catch them when 95 other guys did, it really kind of puts your down. To come back like I did yesterday and then to gain a couple of more positions today, I had a pretty successful week if you look at the way it started.”
