About The Ike Foundation:

Established in 2014, The Ike Foundation is an IRS registered 501(c)3 nonprofit

foundation focused on promoting the sport of fishing to youths and developing their appreciation of the outdoors and America’s natural resources. Each year, the Foundation donates thousands of rods, reels, tackle boxes, and lures to kids.

It also assists civic organizations, youth fishing organizations, and other charitable organizations in sponsoring events that promote fishing to both inner city and rural youth. The events teach young people about the sport of fishing, the ecology of the outdoors, and the responsibility each person has to maintain our planet’s natural resources.

In April, the Foundation awards a scholarship to five high school anglers headed to college. In May, it hosts Ike’s Hook ‘Em Early Kids Fishing Tournament and, in July, it hosts the 2nd Annual Ike Celebrity Pro-Am Tournament & Benefit Dinner.  See TheIkeFoundation.org for details about the upcoming events.

The Bass University Appoints Durand to Environmental Director Position

The Bass University, a leading source of educational materials and opportunities for bass anglers founded by Mike Iaconelli and Pete Gluszek, has announced the addition of Craig Durand to the Bass University staff in the position of Environmental Director.   Craig is known as the EcoBassAngler and will be contributing commentary to the Bass University social media pages highlighting important environmental issues that affect our fisheries.

Durand has a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science with a specialty in Water Resources from Rutgers University, and he has spent the last 30 years in positions of increasing responsibility in the world of environmental consulting. He is currently the President of TTI Environmental, Inc., a firm that provides comprehensive environmental plans for a wide variety of entities. He is also an avid bass angler.

“It’s important that we utilize the Bass University platform to bring attention to issues related to the health and advancement of our fisheries,” Gluszek said. “There are all sorts of things – storm water runoff, pollution, watershed protection and habitat development, to name just a few – that impact the resources that we depend on for great fishing.”

Look for frequent messages about critical environmental issues on the Bass University’s social media accounts and in our newsletters going forward. We are excited to harness the skills and energy of our many students and friends to make a difference on the “playing fields” that have given us so much.

“I applaud Bass University’s vision and commitment to protect and improve the health of our lakes and rivers.  I’m excited to combine my environmental background and love of bass fishing to support the Bass University vision.   We all live downstream, we all cherish our waters, and I look forward to supporting Bass University’s mission to improve our fisheries through education and community involvement.”
