Georgia Angler Wins Reelin’ & Racing Sweepstakes
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — When Harris Housley of Calhoun, Ga., dropped his name in the sweepstakes box at the 2014 Bassmaster Classic Outdoors Expo, he never thought that a few months later he’d get a phone call from Bassmaster Elite Series pro Aaron Martens.
“I had a message on my phone that said, ‘This is Aaron Martens. It looks like we’re going to be fishing together!’ I thought someone was playing a joke on me,” Housley said.
After talking with Martens, Housley soon learned he was the sole winner of the Bassmaster Reelin’ & Racing Sweepstakes presented by Nationwide Insurance.
Not only will Housley receive round-trip airfare to Birmingham, Ala. — B.A.S.S. headquarters — and a three-night hotel stay, rental car and $500 in spending money, but he will also get the VIP experience at a major stock car race at Talladega Superspeedway.
“I’ve followed racing just about my whole life,” Housley said. “I’ve been to Talladega before they had to run restrictor plates, so it’s great that’s part of the prize.”
After the race on Sunday, Oct. 19, Housley will hop in the boat with the 2013 Angler of the Year to fish a lake in central Alabama.
“I’ve watched Aaron on The Bassmasters,” Housley said. “He seems like such a down-to-earth person and very knowledgeable about fishing. I just can’t wait!”
Housley, who fishes lakes around the southeast as often as he can, is looking forward to learning the way Martens dissects a body of water and his tricks on finding fish.
“It just seems like October won’t get here soon enough!” Housley said.
Fans have another chance to get on the water with an Elite pro through the Fish With Rojas In Mexico Sweepstakes currently underway on Bassmaster.com.
The winner will receive a fishing trip to Angler’s Inn in El Salto, Mexico, that includes round-trip airfare, ground transportation, $500 spending money, gear from Rigid Industries and Spro/Gamakatsu, a four-night stay and three days of fishing on one of the world’s best lakes for trophy bass.
The Fish With Rojas In Mexico Sweepstakes sweepstakes runs through May 30, and the winner will be selected June 10, 2014.

McClelland Riding a Wave of Momentum Heading into Central Open #2
SHREVEPORT, La. (April 22) — After going home with a Bassmaster Elite Series win in Branson, Mo., two weeks ago, pro angler Mike McClelland is hoping to score back-to-back victories with a first-place finish this weekend, April 24-26, at the Central Open #2 event on Red River in Shreveport.
The Cabela’s/GEICO For Your Boat Stratos has already been in the water on Red River getting prepared for this weekend’s tournament. However, McClelland seems to have all the confidence in the world about his chances at the Central Open #2.
“Well it’s always nice to be able to ride the momentum after a win,” McClelland said. “It seems like fishing, in my career anyways, is one of those sports that’s been kind of streaky for me. Wins aren’t easy to come by, especially at the Elite Series level. You really have to take advantage when you have the opportunity to ride the momentum when you can.
“I already try to go into an event as confident as I can be, but you definitely go in with a lot more confidence when you are coming off a good finish, especially a win.”
McClelland will look to defend his Branson victory when he launches with the rest of the pro anglers at 6:30 a.m. CT from the Red River South Marina with weigh-in for the first two days at 2:30 p.m. CT. The event will conclude April 26 with weigh-in at 3:30 p.m. CT from the Bass Pro Shops in Bossier City, La.
“As far as the weather goes for this weekend it’s going to be absolutely beautiful,” McClelland said. “Conditions for the river itself, however, aren’t what we all hoped they would be. The water is definitely a little bit muddier than usual. Unfortunately, it may actually lead to a little bit tougher fishing conditions than everyone expected for the tournament.
“Red River is definitely a good fishery and it has a lot of fish in it to catch. The issue is when the water gets muddy it really seems to make the fish scatter around. When the fish move around like that, it makes it really difficult to lock down and fish in one location.”
