The Yearling has Arrived
LIVETARGET announces the arrival of the new Yearling BaitBall Series at major retailers and independent dealers throughout North America just in time for the holiday gift season. The Yearling BaitBall family consists of eight different lure models and was first revealed to the trade in Orlando, Fl. at ICAST, 2014.
The Yearling BaitBall joins the award winning Juvenile BaitBall Series from ICAST, 2013; which created a new trend in the ‘Match the HatchTM’ realism of schooling baitfish formed into a single lure. “The Yearling Series represents young baitfish in the early life-cycle stage; with large eyes and semi-translucent bodies, they seek the security of a baitball to ward off predators,” states LIVETARGET visionary Grant Koppers. “The smaller Yearling lures have more individual baitfish on each lure than the previous Juvenile series because the hatch size is naturally smaller,” he adds.
The smallest 13⁄4” crankbait features eight yearling fish profiles, while the larger 4 1⁄4” jerkbait features over twenty fish profiles. Lure models available in the Yearling Series include: silent squarebills, crankbaits and jerkbaits and also rattlebaits and topwater walking baits with rattles.
“Since we launched the Juvenile Baitball Series in 2013 demand has been incredible” says Koppers. “The Yearling Series is a natural evolution of the BaitBall concept.” Asked if LIVETARGET has more innovations to come, Koppers answered “innovation is part of our core culture; we will continue to innovate every year.”

V&M’s Teb Jones Makes The Classic through BASS Federation!
Natchitoches, LA December 8, 2014 – V&M is proud to announce a 3rd member of the V&M family is going to the Bassmaster Classic!
“We are overwhelmed with excitement that we have yet another V&M Pro fishing in the Bassmaster Classic!” stated V&M Pro Team manager Mike Pharr. “Teb has worked so hard to accomplish this lifelong dream. In addition to the BASS Federation he has fished as a Pro in the Bassmaster Opens for years. We are very confident he is more than prepared for the competition he is about to face.”
When asked about his journey and what it meant to him, Teb had this to say. “I have so much to say and so many emotions to describe that it is really hard to reduce it to words. Qualifying for the Classic is every angler’s dream. Mine has finally come true. What started as just a seemingly impossible dream as a very young man has now become a reality. Perseverance is the first word that comes to mind. I began fishing club tournaments as a co-angler in the early 1980’s; I started fishing seriously as a professional angler in 2006. 8 Bass Nation Divisional Championships and 3 Bass Nation National Championships later, I finally got the job done. Since qualifying for the Classic, I have modified the dream…..it is now time to focus on trying to win it all. The Classic is set up as a winner take all tournament. You have to approach it that way.”
Jones credited his tournament success to a ¼ oz V&M Pacemaker spinnerbait in the color “Blue Herring”. The key was slow rolling the smaller profile of the ¼ oz parallel to laydowns. “I would catch fish behind other boats all day long.” After he would get a limit he would then flip the laydowns with a V&M Baby Swamp Hog and Wild Thang 6.5.

Hydrowave Replay: One Shot at a Second Chance
Everyone has that one tournament that they would like a “Do Over”. It’s the one that you barely missed the technique or just dialed it in too late. It’s the one that you would give anything to Do It All Over. It haunts you today and will haunt you for life. Not in a negative way but in a way that its hard not to revisit. I have several, but like everyone there is the one that sticks out most.
If you are an Elite Series Angler you can pretty much multiply that emotion by 1000. I posed that question to Fred Roumbanis recently and he did not hesitate to shout an answer. One event, one miscue, one moment in time Fred would give anything to relive. Fred’s just happened to come on the first tournament under the new Elite Series format. The “Battle on the Border” Lake Amistad in Del Rio, Texas was the event.
“My practice went excellent and I knew that this was my time and my chance to make a statement right away. Day four of the event was unfolding exactly the way I wanted and I had 28.12 pounds in my live well by late day. It’s funny how you have a 6th sense throughout the day know exactly what you need to win. I knew that I needed a big cull. I needed a four-pound cull to be exact to have a chance. The afternoon was setting up perfect and the bass had moved up on the shallow flat points as the water warmed. It seemed like every cast, I would catch one on my swim bait. I was going to put it to them West Coast Style. Never in my mind did I think that cull would not come. With 5 minutes left I was still confident. At the 5-minute mark it happened. As soon as she choked my swim bait I knew she was the winning bass. No doubt she was over 9 pounds. I fought here just like the hundreds of others that I wrestled with throughout the week. I lay down to lip her and for some reason chose to let her tire for one more second. Right then in front of my eyes she surged under the boat and wrapped in the only visible tree. Time was out. I could see here but I did not have time to get her out. Snapping that line was the hardest on the water decision I’ve had to make. I was crushed. I’m still crushed. With that bass I would have won. It would have been a 5-pound cull. Ordinarily and second place and $31,000 dollars would be something to get excited about. To this day, all I can think about is the regret. Never again will a bass get a second chance at being lipped.”
Ish Monroe went on to win and was a great Champion.
In Fred’s case it was the proverbial “One that got away”. Over the next few months I will get some other perspectives from other anglers that would like a Do Over.
This is the first part of an ongoing series by Bass East contributor Gene Eisenmann.
