Fall Topwater with Lineberger
With the fall fishing season under way, I figured it would be a good time to let you in on one of my favorite techniques, the buzzbait. I have come to rely on this bait more and more when the leaves begin to change color. Where do you start, one might ask. I am going to tell you everything you need to know to help make your fall more successful.
Let’s start by looking at the setup and bait. The bait I go to every time is the True South Custom Lures V-Twin buzzbait. This bait can be worked slower and gets up on top of the water super-fast. I prefer to use a shad type pattern this time of year. When throwing the V-Twin I use a Denali N2 rod in model N2823FJ, which is a 6’10 rod. I equip my N2 with a high speed Revo reel made by Abu Garcia. The 7.1:1 gear ratio allows me to quickly adapt the retrieve to what the fish want; rather it is a slow speed or really burning it back. Lastly make sure you spool up with some quality mono line. I prefer to throw 15lb. test when fishing this way. One thing to keep in mind, bass understand the importance of feeding up before winter and will follow the bait through the regular seasonal patterns.
As the leaves begin to fall grab your V-Twin buzzbait and head out to the lake. This technique can produce some of your biggest bass of the year!!

Brent Ehrler / LC 1.5 Spin
Lucky Craft pro Brent Ehrler demonstrates how to fish with the LC 1.5 SPIN at Lake Perris. The moment a square bill crank bait works its best is when it deflects off cover. So LC concentrated on this “deflective action” that attracts bass to bite. They were able to create this new crankbait called the “LC 1.5 Spin”. Just by retrieving, the blade automatically rotates, hits the tail hook and loses it balance which creates the “hunting action”. The “LC 1.5 Spin” has a high reconstruction swimming capability in avoiding unnecessary trouble such as line tangling. Also from its rotating blade, creates a shine/vibration to attract bass.

Win Bassmaster Classic Champion Randy Howell’s Triton Boat
For the fourth consecutive year Alabama based professional angler and reigning Bassmaster Classic Champion Randy Howell will be giving away his Bassmaster Classic winning Triton bass boat. Howell has given away his tour boat each year for the past four years to one lucky donor to the King’s Home. The King’s Home, based in Birmingham Alabama, is home to hundreds of youth, women, and children seeking refuge, hope, and help from abuse, neglect, abandonment, homelessness, and other difficult and impoverished conditions and circumstances from all around the country.
The boat, a 2014 Triton 21TRX is powered by a Mercury Marine 250 Pro XS engine, is the exact boat Howell used to win the Bassmaster Classic and $300,000 in February of this year. Howell said, “This has been a special boat to me and It is a blessing to see it used to raise the much needed funding to help the kids and women at King’s Home. Whoever wins this is going to love it, it is loaded with all the bells and whistles including; Lowrance electronics, Bluewater LED custom lighting, HullSpeed hull coating, Bob’s Marine jack plate, Power-Poles, and more.”
For every $100 donation to the King’s Home Randy Howell is giving away one entry to win the boat. There is no limit to the entries a person can receive for their donation, a $1000 donation would receive ten entries. The boat drawing will be held at the Kampfire for the King on November 15, 2014 at the King’s Home Chelsea Alabama headquarters. The drawing will be streamed live on the KingsHome.com at 2:15 PM CST.
