Rich Howes – Southern Open Fish Montage
As winter takes hold of the majority of the country, it becomes a good time to view videos of fish catching action to get the blood pumping for next year! Our good friend and Allstate/Fitzgerald Rods Pro Rich Howes is looking forward to the first Southern Open of 2015 on Lake Toho – an event he won in 2013 to punch his ticket to the Classic.
The video shows Rich’s results from the 2014 Southern Open #3 on Lake Norman, NC, where Rich finished a close second to Andy Montgomery. You can bet that the memories of these fish are spurring him forward to earn a return trip to the Classic in 2016!!!

Crews Joins Cashion
Cashion Fishing Rods is privileged to announce that Bassmaster Elite-Series Pro John Crews of Salem,VA has joined the Cashion Rods Family for 2015. John brings numerous qualities to the partnership to help Cashion Rods grow as a company.
John Crews stated the reasoning why he chose Cashion Rods, “I joined Cashion Rods because the growth potential is huge with this company. Most companies have a top down approach and introduce a product to fit the market, however, Cashion is the exact opposite. They developed materials that lead to introducing superior fishing rods. With this company the product and materials used are everything.”
John is an upper echelon Bassmaster Elite Angler and fierce competitor. “John Crews is the epitome of professional and he demands the best equipment available. In John’s position he could choose to work with any company but he chose Cashion because of our innovation and vision”, stated Paul Benson, Cashion Fishing Rods National Sales Manager.
Cashion Fishing Rods started in 2009 when Dr. Matthew Cashion graduated from Virginia Tech with a Ph.D. in chemistry with concentration in Polymer Chemistry. Matthew and his wife Jennifer wanted to live in North Carolina, however, the local job market was less than optimal in 2009. Opportunities are always available no matter the circumstance and Dr. Cashion used this period to combine his two loves, material science and fishing, and Cashion Rods was born.
John has already embraced the Cashion Rods family and will be a terrific addition to a team of dynamic professional anglers which includes FLW Pro’s Tracy Adams and Michael Neal. “2015 is shaping up to be the biggest year yet for Cashion Rods. We have a terrific team of top level anglers, we are introducing new rod lines, and the Cashion Rods Tour will be the biggest and best ever,” said Cashion Rods Founder, Matthew Cashion. Be on the lookout for some exciting videos and rod designs being released in the near future from this new partnership.

Tackle Tuesday
Tackle Tuesday is a new feature here at Bass East. This week Keith will discuss one of his go-to swimbaits. It’s the Strike King Shadalicous 5.5″ in Blue Gizzard rigged on a 1/2 ounce Strike King Squadron jig head.
1. Application- I like to throw this rig around any type of mid-range structure. Make a long cast and let the bait fall to the bottom then slow roll it back with a steady retrieve.
2. Modifications- I usually cut about 1/16 off the nose in order to make a flat spot. Thread the bait on the hook and add a couple drops of glue between the bait and the jig head.
3. Recommended Tackle- Power Tackle PG104
15-20 lb Seaguar Invizx
Shimano Chronarch 200E7
BONUS tip – if you get a strike but the fish misses, make 3-4 fast cranks of the reel and then slow back down. They’ll usually come back and get it.
